  • A presentation of the Nisenan tribal culture and history
  • A panel discussion of the impacts of the proposed Centennial Dam project on Nisenan heritage sites and the culture today
  • Demonstrations of cultural practices, language, and songs
Our Nisenan tribal leaders invite the public to join in a community discussion of our cultural history and lifeways. We Nisenan are the indigenous people of this area. The Bear River is the heartland of our traditional territory, which encompass the California counties of Placer, Nevada, Sutter, Yuba, Sierra and Sacramento. Our people endured years of racism, hatred and discrimination. We were tortured, murdered and sold into servitude at the hands of the white settlers. Our lands, children, families and homes were forcibly relocated to other parts of the country. Today, we strive to walk in balance in both the red and white worlds. The local Nisenan families invite the general public to come and visit with us on Saturday and Sunday. We will present our tribal history and culture, hold a dialogue on the proposed dam and its impacts, and demonstrate our cultural traditions as we share our cultural lifeways.
